Birdsong filled the green world ...




We walked past leafless birch and willow trees towards the water - 

The willow blossoms were a strange pale yellow - 

Rabbit droppings speckled the cropped grass - 

We heard birdsong and felt the warm sun upon our faces - 

There was a stand of pines on the quiet shore - 

The tide was high - 

A gentle wind stirred the surface of the tidal creek -

Anne and Penelope looked out for birds - 

Two Canada Geese flew low over the reed beds - 

In the distance were the Purbeck Hills - 

Birdsong filled the green world -
