Twilight in India ...






After the temple library, Doctor Bagi took us to a church - we climbed up a very steep flight of steps, relishing the cool air - 

I'd liked visiting the library - there were shelves of worn volumes of Theosophy - high above were stilled fans - the temple custodian watched us closely - 

On the General English shelf, next to Tristam Shandy, I found a James Hadley Chase paperback with a racey cover -

But the church was a noble structure, overlooking a serene vista of distant, bluish green, hills - fragile dwellings were scattered amongst the coconut palms - a mist was rising from the paddy fields -

Dr Bagi would walk to this church from his father's house - nearby were the ruins of the picture palace he went to every weekend - 

A full moon hung in the sky - I could discern its pale seas -
