Ken checks out the cricket scores - India are playing New Zealand - 

Anne reads Travels with Epicurus - Sophie's e-mailing Paul - he flies out tomorrow - 

But Jane is completing a still life - she looks carefully at the the straw hat, the shawl, the apples and the pomegranate - 

Each shape is a challenge - yet the picture comes into being - gentle, glowing with calm colours -
