I walked through the empty precinct -

I'd just taken my mum and dad to church - 

There were only two diners in McDonalds - 

Later I would drive through the colourless  estates - 

I would buy The Mail on Sunday in a convenience store - 

Rain would fall on the narrow gardens - 

Strange dogs would roam the banjos - 

This was not a place for chinos - 

There were no young men with Assyrian beards - 

A man on a mobility scooter would tell me we've got Britain back -
