I listened to a man in a tail coat lampooning The Daily Mail -
I'd searched in vain for a red wedge tee shirt which wasn't XXL -
Grizzled comrades sipped their first cider -
Sturdy girls asked us if we had wrist bands -
Tent dwellers were queuing for the showers -
Last night there'd been dancing in the Martyrs Marquee -
We held our banner close -
Later we'd march through the village -
Brave trombones would promise a glorious morning -
We'd hear words we longed for -
We'd be part of something fine and true -
