Swimming with Chagall ...




I wondered if this would be our last swim -

Swimming in the clear shallows, over white shells -

Looking back at the green shore -

Imagining myself in a painting by Chagall -

Flying above the sand -

Hearing the music of those who became smoke -

Waiting for a shy moon -

There, I was out of my depth -

Swimming beyond the nearest yachts -

Knowing now there would always be a time for swimming -

For taking off my watch -

For the moments in the sea to last forever -
