We'd been walking northwards, parallel to the dunes overlooking Cheswick Sands -
The wind blew in from the sea - low clouds promised rain -
Our path had taken us amongst the cosseted greens of a golf course -
Notices warned of flying golf balls -
Herring gulls flew above the golfers -
Julia pointed with her walking pole -
Let's go in she said -
Julia plays golf - she'll say some magic golfing words I thought -
Inside the club house, we drank filter coffee -
Julia had worked her magic -
I read the names of the golfers on the honours board -
The first captain of golf was J Kean in 1892 -
Sir William Crossman KCMG was president from 1890 to 1901 -
There's too much rough a golfer said -
This is a straight forward club house said Julia - I like it - nothing fancy shmancy -
