Dream lives were lived by beautiful mannequins ...

Walking across Falkland Square to the Dolphin Centre, I felt, more than ever, like a character in a dystopian novel -

Amazons wearing jeggings loped into Poundland -

Beggars waited for small coins under a grey sky -

A bravo sold Dunkin Donuts to skinny whooping boys -

Wind chapped shoppers waited by the lowered level crossing barriers -

In the bright windows of the opticians, impossible beauties wore stylish sunglasses -

Uniformed servitors stood by the glass doors of the Centre -

Inside, creepy music spilled out of hidden speakers -

Newspaper headlines warned of the migrant crisis

A man in a poachers coat shook a bucket for Help for Heroes

I headed for M & S

Dream lives were lived by beautiful mannequins -
