Walking to the gym, I had to walk past the boys' changing room -

A boy stood waiting in the corridor -

He was a scrap of sparrows' bones -

I could hear the hooting of the other boys inside the changing room -

It all came back to me -

The horror of the showers -

The bigger boys -

The dangling ropes and the wall bars -

The laughter -

Being thin -

Being small -
