The hiss of Qashqais ...

I whisper the names of the motorway service stations -

Woodall, Tibshelf, Trowell -

I recall their arcades of beckoning games -

Their masked visitors -

The hiss of Qashqais on the carriageway -

Scarborough

Brightness still falling from the air ...

Once more we saw bluebells from the winding path -

Blueness amongst ash and hawthorn -

Brightness still falling from the air -

Lulworth
Dorset

Wings in the air ...

There were bright wings in the air -

Songs carried by the wind -

I saw young gods, beguiled by the air -

Halfway between sea and hidden shore -

Then I'll take my hat off ...

Inspector Thursday haunts my dreams -

He sits in the 1960's like a troubled king -

I can hear him now -

Those words murmured in a dark place -

Then I'll take my hat off -

The Old School House
East Stoke

The old Bear ...

There were boozy idlers here once -

They'd lurch down the corridor towards the jakes -

There'd be dangerous laughter in the bar -

Smoke curling against the yellow ceiling -

Spilled ale glistening on the floorboards -

There were photographs of lean jockeys -

Monstrous pikes would glower at tawny girls -

The stairs led to a warren of low ceilinged rooms -

The moon netted in cobwebs -

The stars caught in a broken window -

Wareham

A winged man leaps from the tower ...

I'm reading J G Ballard -

I imagine Blake walking across the water meadows -

Weird orchids mark his  path -

A swordfish wears a crown of eels -

Marmosets hide amongst the apple blossom -

Vines cover the lichened box tomb -

A banyan tree casts a growing shade -

A winged man leaps from the tower -

The Old School House
East Stoke

I wore wings of yellow feathers ...

There were now leaves on the knotted oaks -

Birds sang in bright fields -

There were bluebells -

Pools where dragonflies would soon dazzle -

I wore wings of yellow feathers -

My bones were young and green -
