Dancing to Tainted Love ...

When I heard Marc Almond crooning tainted love and  I cannot stand the way you tease I knew that I had to dance -

I remembered one dangerous summer with Annick, the Sunbeam Rapier full of smoke -

We were meeting a bravo in a cavernous pub -

They love it, these Soft Cell boys she'd said, dancing upon a carpet of broken glass -

Reading Stefan Zweig's "Montaigne" on the beach ...

I'm reading Stefan Zweig's Montaigne whilst sunbathing on the beach -

A few moments ago, I was swimming in the wild wanton sea -

Garlands of foam were hanging from my neck - my legs were roped with kelp -

My body is still tingling - I'm digging my toes into the warm fine sand -

I can hear the sound of the waves -

The tide is out - gulls are flying overhead -

Jay gave me this book as a present - I am treasuring each page -

The wind dries my salty hair -

My dark clothes lie heaped up beside me -

My watch is buried somewhere in the sand -

Singing I'm A Believer ...

Before the vows, we sang I'm A Believer

The words flew around the garden like joyous birds -

Above our heads was a roof of sky - beneath our feet was the gentle earth -

Love made our voices golden -

Our shadows danced upon the grass -

The party on the beach ...

The day after the wedding, we all went to the beach -

Creatives lay upon the sand, their devices sleeping, their eyes shaded by Ray-Bans -

Helium balloons sashayed in the breeze -

Sophie and Paul danced in the electric zinging sea -

We all whooped with joy -

Later, Jay floated upon his back -

Look said Bridget, a floating philosopher

My barber and consigliere tells me not to worry ...

I spent some time this morning in my gentlemen's club -

Paul raised his dancing scissors above my head -

Don't worry my barber and consigliere said - no one ever worries about the bride's father's speech - all they'll worry about is how long it'll be -

I will hold the sun in my hands ...

Sophie and Paul are staying with us - they arrived here yesterday -

Their joyous world now touches mine -

On Saturday, Jane will say her precious words -

I will walk with Sophie over the bright grass -

I will hold the sun in my hands -

The moon will shine in a summer sky -

The spider and the moon ...

Looking out the bedroom window, late one afternoon, I saw a spider, on the other side of the glass -

She hung, like an insouciant murderess, on her silver ropes, high above the limitless garden -

In the attic, there were ancient spider cities -

Old photographs lived their secret lives -

Late that evening, I went outside -

The moon came out from the clouds -

Dew chilled my feet -

I clung to my own ropes, my pen in my hand, songs still be sung like apricots in my mouth -
